Assistantships

Graduate assistantships provide students the opportunity to combine theory and practice while offering financial assistance that includes remission of tuition and a stipend. Assistantships allow students to focus on academic coursework and take advantage of other professional opportunities.

Graduate teaching assistants play a vital role in the success of the Teacher Education Program. Generally only those individuals with prior P-12 experience with good academic skills, and with an interest in teaching/mentoring preservice candidates are selected. Certain candidates will teach in the introductory courses while others will support our work in professional development schools or will supervise student teachers. The work is exciting and rewarding for those that meet our qualifications.

Research assistantships are available on a year by year basis depending on current staffing availability.

The School of Education does not provide a list of current assistantship openings. Teaching assistantships usually go through the Educator Licensure Office and require experience teaching undergraduate education classes. Please contact the Educator Licensure Office at 970.491.5292 for more information. Research assistantships may be available through the individual professors. Please contact the professor you are interested in working with. Assistantship applications (SOE form 23) can be found on our web site and are turned into the Graduate Programs Office at any time although applications are reviewed during the spring semester for the following academic year.
